March 14, 2018
By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

Flamingo Day returned to Olde Florida Outpost on Saturday, March 3. To mark the occasion, the building and surrounding property were decorated with flamingoes.

"We're here year round and try to host an event 4-5 times a year," Olde Florida Outpost owner Heather Schwarz said. "This event, held in March, gives us a chance to meet our northern neighbors we enjoy that a great deal."

A number of local vendors and artists were there along with Magen Romeo, who stopped traffic dressed as "Ms. Flamingo Day 2018."

Plastic flamingos flocked to the Olde Florida Outpost for the occasion.

"Magen's a good friend and volunteers for everything we do at Olde Florida Outpost," Schwarz said. "Many will remember her as the Marilyn Monroe contest winner.

"Last year's event was very well attended and we're pleasantly surprised that this year it's even better," Schwarz added. "This in a fun event and the feedback from our guests and vendors last year suggested we should do this more often."

Olde Florida Outpost is an Island Specialty Shoppe featuring unique island gifts, home decor, jewelry, clothing and gourmet foods.

It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free hot dogs and drinks were provided and music and karaoke provided by Bobby D. Mann.
