Bokeelia snowbirds appreciate Koonz bench and the Saxon Little Library

To the editor:

We wish to publicly acknowledge and thank some remarkable neighbors who add so much to the enjoyment of our winters in Bokeelia.

For many years, Joel and Genevre Koonz have generously provided a lovely park bench with signage reading "Walkers Welcome to Sit" in the front their own property. They also are responsible for the iconic, colorful "Pine Island bicycle" placed by the waterfront as the road makes the turn to the awesome view of Charlotte Harbor. They continuously maintain, paint and/or replace these as needed - and they add greatly to the ambience of Bocilla Island.

Our entire community is also most grateful for the "Little Free Library" installed right next to the bench. A charming, weatherproof wooden cupboard houses several dozen books and invites residents to "Take a book- Leave a book." The Little Library was the brainchild of some other great Bokeelia residents, Jane and Don Saxon. Jane, a retired librarian, organized the venture and, with the cooperation of the Koonzes, it was installed last year. The library is very well utilized and so much appreciated by the neighborhood.

We cannot thank these wonderful neighbors enough for enhancing our community life through their caring and generosity.
