Thank you to all who made the Parade of Mermaids a success

Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

I am so thankful for the success of the 2018 Parade of Mermaids at Bert's Pinebay Gallery in Matlacha on Feb. 9, and would like to thank everyone who contributed to this fundraising event that was also a fun, memorable party for all involved.

First, to my husband, Newt Cole, who is always there when I call. Second, thank you to my employer, Bernard Johnson, for your continued generosity, and for all that you contribute to our community. Third, to my coworkers at RSW Hospitality: Bonnie Bernadette Hodges, Marcia Goggin, Jacque Jennings, Emily Lewis, Aimie, the food genius at Bert's, Pamela Moss, who is always there to lend a hand, a photo, a hug; Georgio, for setting up the tent and tables; Kim, for making it all seem easy; Yvonne, for making it all easier; all the gang at Bert's, for always being willing to help me out. What a family we are, right?

Also, my thanks to the woman who stepped in to sell raffle tickets (sorry! I lost your name); to Kimberly Ellison Photography; to Ginnie Sworupski and Jennifer Jennings, for just jumping in to help; to Dick and Dianne Maher, for your generous donation. Special thanks to the Brothers Van Kirk for their band Strange Arrangement for their great music contribution. Thanks to all the people who came and gave us their support. What an honor to have tailgators! Thanks to our fabulous celebrity judges: Robert N. Macomber, Leoma Lovegrove and Mel Meo, who also pitched in by lugging in the gargantuan cooler of beer, and sticking around to serve it!

Last but not least: thank you to the mer-folk who swam in to delight and entertain with your creative costumes: Cassie of the Caribbean, Princess Starfish, Aragie, Blue Wanda, Celestial Starfish, Sassy Scallop Shell, Olivia Oyster, Snow White (Fairest of the Sea), Calypso, Goldie Snapper, Mermaid Ariel, Undise and Hugo (rare conjoined twins), Princess Hylia, Lady Adella, Princess Pearl, Princess Azalea of Dolphin City, Queen Coral of St. James City, King Poseidon, Queen Helena, Philly Princess from Dilly Dilly, Jackie-O, Sparkle and Pearl (from the depths of the deep blue Azure Sea!), King Penisetheus, Mermaid Shell, Mermaid Barbie, Purple Mermaid Majesty, Princess Lilly, Roxy, Shelley, Pasty, Marinea Rae, Brigitte Angel Wings Mermaid, Lucious Lynnie, Mermazing Melady, Nuala Nuala, Delorli, Latishe, Stacey Seashell, The Cajun Mermaid (Swim Alioops) and Bernadina of the Sea. May the power of imagination carry you through until next year.
