The American Legion Auxiliary of St. James City hosted its annual "One Hole Over the Pond" golf outing to benefit veterans on Saturday.

The annual event awards prizes to the top five winners of the golf ball closest to the hole. Golfers have to hit the ball well over 100 yards. First prize is $200, second prize $150, and third prize is $100.

Other prizes and drawings were held for participants throughout the day.

Capeturing first place was Jim McLaughlin. He also claimed fourth place.

Taking second was Rod Nelson, and Jim Hogland was third. George Stauffer earned 5th.

Additional fun throughout the day included lunch with a choice of hotd og, brats, hamburgers, cheeseburgers or grilled chicken and sides. As always, beer and drinks were available at the bar.

"We raised $1.596 for our veterans," Auxiliary president Claudine Alvarez said. "Most of all I would like to thank all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a success. It couldn't happen without you.

"The auxiliary would also like to thank all the golfers for participating and supporting the veterans on our island."

All proceeds will benefit veterans and veterans programs locally and in the state of Florida.
