Harbor History Tours offered by the RRC

November 29, 2017
Special to The Eagle ( , Pine Island Eagle

The Randell Research Center has partnered with Captiva Cruises to offer Harbor History Tours of Northern Pine Island Sound on Tuesdays, Dec. 26, Jan. 16, Feb. 20, and March 20.

These 90-minute round-trip cruises from Pineland will take place aboard the Captiva Cruise's Santiva and will be narrated by Denge Patterson, author of "A Tour of the Islands of Pine Island Sound: Their Geology, Archaeology, and History." Patterson's knowledge of the islands is equaled only by her enthusiasm and passion for sharing what she knows.

Participants will learn about the surprises encountered when Wilson's Cut was dredged at Pineland, discover why the stories of Useppa Island are a metaphor for all the islands, learn how certain mysterious islands might have received their names and explore how geologic processes worked to create the rich estuary and more.
