GPICA Matlacha-Pine Island Incorporation documents Available

November 15, 2017
Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

The Greater Pine Island Civic Association's intent is to provide all the information about incorporation possible, and to answer all questions that arise. We have the following documents available, and they have been submitted to Matlacha community leaders. They have also been posted to Facebook sites: Pine Island Plan and Pine Island Strong:

n Draft charter

n Updated feasibility study

n Boundary and voting district map

These documents were submitted to the Office of the House Clerk on Sept. 1, 2017, and are preliminary drafts that were submitted for review and correction. We also submitted results of the straw poll on incorporation.

These were for the state of Florida's review and comments and to gain support of our legislative delegation to sponsor a bill for the incorporation of The Village of Matlacha-Pine Island. These documents will be revised per their suggestions, and further legal review. They will be resubmitted for sponsorship in the next legislative session in 2019.

That is more than year from now and will also allow us to circulate, and gather signatures of all Matlacha and Pine Islanders who support the incorporation of The Village of Matlacha-Pine Island.

We are currently working to develop an updated website at gpica.org and the documents will soon be posted there as well. We will also take comments there about the documents and will have a petition in support of incorporation posted. (We will post notice when the new site is live.)

Thank you for your participation, and please show your support by signing the petitions being circulated in person or online (when available).

Roger Wood, president.

Greater Pine Island Civic Association
