Attend the public hearing

Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

Lee County Commis-sioners are having a hearing this Thursday morning on a proposal for the Mosquito Control District to build a 39-acre airport on Pine Island near St. James City.

It was not very long ago that the Lee County Commissioners met and allowed flights coming into and out of Southwest Regional to be shifted over Pine Island to avoid going over Fort Myers Beach.

Seems like everyone in Fort Myers had had enough low flying aircraft buzzing along the beach everyday.

From what I gathered, all of the Mosquito Control District flights for Lee County will come from the St. James area of Pine Island.

One can only wonder how taking all the flights from the Lee County mainland and putting them on a coastal hurricane flood plain is a smart move for the environment. Or any benefit to the tourists or anyone else that comes to or lives on the outer islands to get away from aircraft , their noise and pollution.

While you cannot contact any Lee County Commissioners about the project, because it is a public hearing on land use, you can plan on attending this meeting to show your non-support for this project, and tell the commissioners what you want or don't want in your Island.
