Open House Night held at PIE

August 16, 2017
By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

Several hundred parents, students and teachers arrived attended Pine Island Elementary school's Open House Night Tuesday, Aug. 8

"We are doing Open House Night a little different this year," said Linda Gassner, the secretary to Principal Steven Hook. "Instead of having everyone gather in the cafeteria, the parents and children are going directly to their classrooms to see the classrooms and meet their teachers."

The open house schedule began with Kindergartners from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Grades 1, 3 and 5 6-7 p.m.; and grades 2 & 4 from 7-8 p.m.

For the first time, the Harry Chapin Mobile Food Truck was onsite along with Southern Snoballs (offering free snoballs to students courtesy of PIE CPTO), and the Matlacha Hookers had student designed notecards available.

"Every student also receives a T-shirt," Gassner said. "There will be information on our Eagle's Nest program that provides morning care right at the school, along with After Care information provided by Park's and Rec."

The 2017-28 school year at Pine Island Elementary and across Lee County began last Thursday, Aug. 8.
