Last Friday, March 17, the Ladies of the Elks President Diane Nivens and Marilyn Grossmueller presented a check to Pine Island Elementary School Principal Steve Hook.

"I'm very pleased to accept this check for over $1,800 from the Ladies of the Elks," Hook said. "This money will be used for our technology program and reading intervention program. I want to thank the Ladies of the Elks and Jeff Mahl for their generosity."

"We also want to thank Jeff Mahl, who is the great grandson of George Schuster, the winner of the Great Race of 1908," Grossmueller said. "Jeff gave another wonderful presentation of his great-grandfather's epic feat of winning the automobile race from New York to Paris and it was his presentation that raised more than $1,800."
