The American Legion Auxiliary held its "One Hole Over the Pond" fundraiser Saturday afternoon. All proceeds went to the Veterans Fund.
"I'm very happy with both the weather and the turnout today," American Legion Auxiliary president Claudine Alvarez said. "This is an important event because we raise money for our veterans and right now (about 1 p.m.) a lady is in the lead."
There were six winners in the contest.

1st place - Hole in One - Bob Minchow
2nd place - 1 foot from the hole - Dave Roger
3rd place - 1 foot, 4 inches - Linda Hart
4th place - 1 foot, 7 inches - Tommy Simmerton
5th place - 2 feet, 4 inches - Jane Begman
6th place - 2 feet, 5 1,2 inches - Mike Graves
"We also gave away 23 gifts," Alvarez said. "We had a wonderful day and we raised $1,800."
Alvarez praised all who participated and contributed to the success of the event.
"The auxiliary would like to thank the businesses for their generous donations," she said. "Alden Pines Golf course, Coral Oaks Golf course, Pine Island Family Hair, The Island Grill, Dr. Watson liquor store, Dominos Pizza, Island Time gifts, Angles Hair design, Blue Dog restaurant, Miceli's restaurant, Center of Attention and Mango Tango plants. We would also like to thank all the players who participated and the volunteers that worked very hard all day."
