Matlacha was all aglow on Christmas Eve

January 18, 2017

To the editor:

Two thousand luminaries covered all of Matlacha, including Pine Island Road's business section; making the 31st year tradition the best ever!

This was made possible by Matlacha's neighbors who donated money for the candles and bags and their energy for assembling the luminaries. Shelley and Brian Shipley donated the property; and John and Cheryl Honc generously donated the sand. It was noted, this year, that many more homes were decorated with the holiday lights, an added feature that lit up the streets of Matlacha.

CW Fudge Factory provided a "live" Nativity setting, an added enhancement for the Christmas Eve celebration.

The weather was perfect and many neighbors made an evening of enjoying the luminaries, seeing the homes that had their homes lit and ending their stroll with the Nativity set.
