Two local businesses, Island Yoga and Island Girl Fitness, have joined together to provide a wide range of services to Pine Islanders.

"I couldn't be happier to announce the addition of their company, Island Yoga Pine Island to Island Girl Fitness Club," owner Tina Bush said. "Jaime Boswell and Tanya Crossman have been teaching yoga at Island Girl Fitness Club since before we moved to our new location, and over the past year we have been working together to merge and expand the services we offer."

"I started practicing yoga in 2003 when I moved to Southwest Florida," Boswell said. "It was a way for me to figure out who I was and where I wanted to go. Yoga is a very empowering thing and it helped me transition into a new stage of my life after college.

"When I started, I began at home for a year or so," Boswell continued. "Then I started going to classes at a studio in Fort Myers where Tanya and I met. We decided to take the 200-hour course to become certified yoga instructors through Yoga Alliance. Yoga Alliance is the largest international nonprofit association representing the yoga community. They have over 72,000 registered yoga teachers at more than 4,800 yoga schools."

"People find all kinds of things in yoga," Crossman said. "Yoga is a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices that go back as far as ancient India. Its about finding comfort in your body. Anyone can do yoga, including people faced with physical difficulties. We have classes for every age group and one thing I'd like to clear up is, many people believe yoga can only be performed from a lying down position. This is not true, we have yoga classes that are done from a chair or even a standing position. Anybody can do yoga.

"It started very physical for me," Crossman continued. "I had back problems for years and joined a class for physical reasons to help me feel better physically. But it became a journey and I discovered yoga offered so much more. There's strength built into the practice. Your holding poses, building muscles and an overall awareness."

"You can practice to stretch out, to strengthen, to become more mindful, to become calmer and you can practice to become all of those things," Boswell said.

"When I built Island Girl Fitness, I included yoga in part of the new facility," Bush said. "I recognized in these two women something I respected and believed I could grow with toward a common goal. The goal of helping people discover the best version of themselves and to truly accept oneself at each stage of our individual journeys. They had a dream, and I had the location! What a perfect combination. We are now able to focus more completely on total well being from head to toe between the two companies!"

"About a year and a half ago Tina sought us out asking for a meeting," Crossman said. "She was very interested in having yoga as part of Island Girl Fitness. Jaime and I feel so strongly about yoga we wanted it presented as something that would be sustainable and be here on a permanent basis. Also, we wanted something welcoming for our clients. It's important that people feel comfortable."

"Island Yoga Pine Island has been a work in progress and a labor of love over the past several years for Jaime and Tanya," Bush said. "Their spirit of determination and their desire to truly help people is what drew me to them in the first place. I am proud to hand all aspects of the yoga studio over to Jaime and Tanya and continue to house them within the walls of Island Girl Fitness Club."

"We have taught yoga all over the island," Boswell said. "Working with Island Girl Fitness has given us the opportunity to make this our own under the umbrella of Island Girl Fitness and we are now supporting each other side by side. This has been a wonderful relationship and a perfect fit. Tina has built a wonderful business and we've been invited to join with her in helping the Pine Island community to a better life."
