Walgreens’ ‘Get a Shot - Give a Shot’ campaign visits Beacon

November 2, 2016

Last Wednesday afternoon, a number of people began lining up to get flu shots at the Beacon of HOPE.

The Beacon of HOPE, along with Walgreens, offered flu shots as part of Walgreens "Get a Shot Give a Shot" campaign.

Walgreens and the United Nations joined forces to protect millions of children in developing countries from polio and measles. From July 1 through Aug. 31, 2017, for every flu shot or other immunization administered at Walgreens pharmacies, Healthcare Clinics, or Duane Reade pharmacies, will donate the value of a life-saving vaccine through the foundation's ShotLife campaign.

"I heard about Walgreens program through the Parish Nurses Network through Lee Memorial Hospital," Caryle Regan, RN, said. "This was brought up at a meeting and several parish nurses had signed up last year. They recommended it so I contacted Josh McCausland, the Walgreens assistant store manager at the Cape Coral Parkway and Coronado Parkway store. They're here today to give flu shots to everyone that comes to the Beacon of HOPE."

"From July 1, 2016, to Aug. 31, 2017, for every immunization administered, Walgreens will donate 22 cents to the United Nations Foundation," McCausland said. "Insurance and Medicare cover most of the shots we will give today but we will give a shot to anyone that comes in."

"This is just a wonderful opportunity for people on the island," Beacon of HOPE director Betsy Haesemeyer said. "It couldn't be any easier for people to get their flu shot they don't even have to leave the island."

The Beacon of HOPE is at 5090 Doug Taylor Circle (in the Industrial Park).
