‘Wheels For Jay Benefit Concert’ July 30 at Miceli’s

July 20, 2016
Special to The Eagle (pineisland@breezenewspapers.com) , Pine Island Eagle

Miceli's Restaurant will present a "Wheels For Jay Benefit Concert," Saturday, July 30, from noon to 4 p.m., at 3390 Pine Island Road in Matlacha

Kip Lawrence is well known as a local songwriter and a member of the world famous "Florida Swamp" band The Yard Dogs. His little brother, Jay, was rendered a quadriplegic at the age of 20. Jay hasn't let this slow him down as he runs his own charity "Hands Up" and is founder/owner of the semi-pro local football team "Florida Stingrays."

He also sits on the board of "Caleb's Crusade," which helps to fund childhood cancer research.

"Jay needs our help because his handicap van is beyond repair and these much needed wheels are expensive," Kip said last week.

Performers for the event include:

n Pat McCune, the fingerstyle guitarist on 6 or 12-string guitar who many will remember from The Hardware Store Concerts in St. James City. He also often performed with Kip on many a stage. His style of music is often called "folk with an attitude" and reflects the music of John Hiatt, Doc Watson, Jorma Kaukonen or John Prine.

n David Hintz is a well traveled songwriter with amazing songs. He is sure to liven up any atmosphere with his quirky views on life as well as his entertaining stage presence. He has recently released his second cd titled "Out With A Bang."

n Bill Metts has delighted audiences across the country with his beautiful tunes and acumen on the acoustic guitar. He loves performing the blues in his deft finger-pickin' style.

n Lawrence will perform a set with his new, as yet un-named band consisting of Houseboat Jim Visone on banjo/guitar and Mecca Keener playing upright acoustic bass.

Please help Jay become mobile once again while enjoying a one-of-a-kind musical line up along with a menu of fresh seafood and Italian specialties.

There will be raffles and 50/50s galore.

The benefit is sponsored by Mojo Sound and Pine Island Printing.
