Pine Island's newest business opened Saturday at 3269 Stringfellow Road in St. James City. The grand opening event ran from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

"This is the party everyone was invited to," Heather Schwarz said. "This building is the location of the old Paisley Parrot Antique store and now it's the new 'Olde Florida Outpost.'"

Heather and Dean Schwarz moved to St. James City from Fort Lauderdale.

Pine Island’s newest business opened Saturday at 3269 Stringfellow Road in St. James City.

"We had looked at this building before but we weren't quite ready to make the move," Heather said.

Heather is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of New York City and designed numerous display windows along 5th Avenue in Manhattan.

"I had an interior decorating business in Fort Lauderdale and we also collected and sold antiques out of a small warehouse before we came here."

"I have quite a collection of old bicycles," Dean said. "We will probably bring some of those out for display from time to time. And if someone would like to buy one all the better."

Heather said she was raised in a retail family.

"My grandfather had a penny candy store in Queens, New York, and other family members were also in retail, so this is a natural environment for me," she said.

Dean's brother lives in Punta Gorda and introduced the couple to Pine Island.

"We came here to fish and buy shrimp," Dean said. "We rode around the island and ate at Bert's and Woody's. That's when we spotted this building. The first concern was how would we get everything in here. But as you can see, everything, well, almost everything, we have on display."

There are classic cars, vintage bicycles and a retro travel trailer on display.

"I had a specialized store before there were specialized stores," Heather said. "And that's what we're doing here."

The property and the shop reflect the owners' lifestyle eclectic and fun. There's outdoor furniture, home dcor, clothing, jewelry, and really clever gift items. From time to time you might even find a truly unique vintage piece they've rescued from their travels.

Olde Florida Outpost is located at 3269 Stringfellow Road in St. James City. Summer hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
