Jean Ann (nee Monagon) Freda

June 29, 2015
Pine Island Eagle

Jean Ann (nee Monagon) Freda, 81, of Pine Island, Florida entered eternal life on Wednesday May 20, 2015 following a brief illness. Jean and her twin brother, Jim, were born in Lorain on February 3, 1934. She was a 1952 graduate of Clearview High School, and was proud to be a Clipper. She continued to meet with her classmates for lunch whenever she was in town, and kept in touch with them when she was away. Their lifelong friendship was something she always cherished. She worked as a secretary for the Painter's Union and at Shields Nursing Clinic in Lorain before retiring after 30 years. Jean married her kindred spirit, William (Bill) Freda, on November 15, 1952. They were a wonderful example of love and friendship that many people envied, and that their three daughters were truly grateful for. In 1991 she and Bill moved to Pine Island, Florida in search of warm weather and constant sunshine. The two built a life there together and became heavily involved in the volunteer and veteran communities. Unfortunately, Jean lost her best friend on September 7, 1996 after nearly 44 years of marriage. After Bills passing she remained involved in the VFW, IAV and Meals on Wheels. She was proud of her involvement with these organizations, and tirelessly donated her time until her passing. The friendships she made while volunteering were a constant light in her life. Jean believed in starting her days off on the right foot. Every morning she would exercise, read beside the pool and catch up with her daughters before tackling the day's adventures. She believed in staying busy and making the most out of every moment, even if that meant putting other's needs before her own. She spent a good amount of time hosting her grandchildren for spring break island getaways. Everyone knew that a visit to grandmas house was not complete without stopping by the VFW for bingo and crispy chicken. This one on one time with grandma has become some of the best memories for her spoiled visitors. Jean later met her fiance and companion, Larry Guy, in 2003. The two enjoyed volunteering on the island and traveling together to various warm weather countries where they could soak up the sun and enjoy each other's genuine company. Although she was in Florida, Jean did her best to stay in touch with her family up North. She was active on Facebook and loved to see the pictures of her family and friends, and even began to use FaceTime this year so that she could "see" her family when she could not actually be there. She had a magical way with timing, so her family knew that there would be a card arriving in the mail on their actual birthdate without fail. She was a lively spirit that thrived on relationships and a quest for all things fun. Her generous heart was evident through her volunteering and constant thoughtfulness. Her legacy will be carried on by her three daughters Wendy (John) Faustini, Erin (Jim) Callahan and Tracy (Larry) Carpenter, fiance Larry Guy, sister Joan Ackerman, brother Jerry Monagon, grandchildren Megan Taliano (Mike), Shawn Callahan (Jacki), Brandon Riegel, Kyle Callahan (Jim), Caitlin Vazquez (Juan), Justin Williamson, Michael Faustini (Hillary), Jason Faustini (Melissa), Andrew Faustini and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, William P. Freda, her brother James Monagon, her parents Merlin and Martha (nee Carlisle) Monagon, and her dear cat Figgy. A celebration of life will be held July 11, 2015 at the VFW on Stringfellow Rd in St. James City, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions are made to Cleveland American Veteran's Association, 1440 Rockside Road #118, Parma, Ohio 44134.
