Pine Island artist Alan Ledesky has opened his first exhibit off Pine Island at Durso's Coffee House. The coffee-house is a brand new business located next to Educator's Music off Pine Island Road and Hancock Bridge Parkway in Cape Coral.

"I've known Chris Durso for many years," Ledesky said. "I purchased guitars and we have some family connections and we would stop in and say hello once in a while. Chris has been here with Educator's Music for many years and when he mentioned he was planning on opening a cafe next door I asked about exhibiting my artwork."

Ledesky has lived on Pine Island for 15 years. One day 10 years ago, on a whim, he decided to begin painting. Since then many of his colorful abstracts have become part of private collections throughout the United States. His work can be seen on Pine Island at Century 21 Sunbelt.

"I used to paint houses but I never painted on canvas before I turned 50," Ledesky said. "One day I was driving past a store that sold artist materials and I just went in and purchased the paint and canvas and started painting. I used to have anxiety issues because of learning disabilities and dyslexia. Once I started painting all of those issues went away."

He went on to explain his painting techniques.

"I always work in quick bursts and paint everything in one sitting," Ledesky said. "Sometimes it lasts an hour and other times five or six hours. Once the energy is gone, I'm finished painting and sign it I never go back. It's easy to continue working on something making small improvements until it becomes what I call 'mud.'"

"The coffee house seemed a great addition to my business," owner Durso said. "Educator's Music been around a long time we opened in 1976. We're the oldest music store in Southwest Florida and have won numerous awards. We moved to this location in 2012 because we needed more space."

He noted that opening a coffee house has been in his mind for some time.

"I've wanted to open a coffee house for years," Durso said. "I'm originally from Brooklyn and you know there are coffee houses all over New York. We explored the possibility a few years ago of getting a Starbucks in but when the economy collapsed they stopped expanding.

"When we moved here three years ago this part of the building was a Cuban restaurant," Durso added. "When they closed up I asked the landlord about taking the space. We made extensive renovations and we had a soft opening a week ago. Alan's paintings bring a lot of color into the place and we had spot lights installed to show them off."

The Coffee House has only been open for about two weeks. Durso is planning a grand opening soon.

"I hope when people from the island come out to the Cape they'll stop in for some coffee, music and art," Ledesky said. "This is a great place to spend some quiet time."

Durso's Delights is at 110 N.E. 2nd Place, Cape Coral. For additional information, call 239-574-3333.
