Woody's Waterside will celebrate its 7th Annual Pine Island All American Memorial Day BBQ Picnic and canned food drive Monday, May 25.

The event will feature Yard Dog Charlie, performing from 2- 5 p.m.

"I hope everyone comes out to support the food drive for the Pine island Food pantry," Charlie said. "And to come out and remember those who have given their lives in the service of our country. It is the ultimate sacrifice."

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed in the United States on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars.

Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember the men and women who died while serving in the Armed Forces.

"We will be collecting non-perishable foods such as canned foods, tooth paste, soap, etc. to donate to the Pine Island Food Pantry," Charlie said. "There will also be raffles and a 50/50 drawing all to benefit the pantry."
