Sharon passed away peacefully on December 12th surrounded by her family. Sharon was born June 26th, 1942 to Larry and Sylvia Van Nord in Holland, Michigan. Sharon is survived by her mother, Sylvia of Holt, Michigan and preceded in death by her father Larry. Sharon is also survived by her devoted husband, Birger of 51 years, her loving sons, Erik (Ann), Lance (Ginette), and Blaine (Stephania). Sharon had 11 grandchildren. Sharon taught at the elementary level for 30 years for the Dundee and Dansville school system in Michigan. Sharon and Birger retired from Dansville schools in 2000 and moved to Bokeelia, Florida where they were active members of St. John's Episcopal Church, Pine Island. Sharon missed working with children, so she tutored students at the after school program at Pine Island Elementary. Sharon was past president of the Episcopal Church Women at St. John's and also served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Matlacha Quilters. Sharon had many talents, but was especially skilled in quilting and created many projects her family will cherish for years. Due to Sharon's health, Sharon and Birger returned to Michigan in 2013 to be close to their family. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2015 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Pine Island at 11:00 am with a reception to follow to celebrate Sharon's life. St. John's is located at 7771 Stringfellow Road, St. James City, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Forster Woods Adult Day Center, 4656 N. Meridian Rd., Williamston, Mi. 48895, where Sharon spent many happy days during her illness.
