Beginning Sunday, Sept. 7, the American Legion Post 136 will begin NFL Sunday at the Legion.
"We've had two additional TVs installed giving us a total number of seven big screens," past post commander Joe Valley said. "I spoke with the new Fort Myers post, they had just built a new building and added a sports bar. I was told that we are missing out on a great opportunity. Since this idea has been successful at other Legion halls in the area, we thought this would help us raise money.
"We must earn money or we can't give it away," he continued. "We support the blind veterans and other veterans' causes, but most of the money we raise stays right here on Pine Island. We support the Matlacha Hookers, and the Matlacha Mariners and, of course, the school."
Getting ready for football season at right are, from left, Jennifer Barr, Linda Hart, Wendy Guadagno and Sharon Smith, the Legion's bartenders.
There will be a different game on every TV but in addition to the new TVs, the Legion has purchased referee shirts for all of the bartenders.
"The ladies look great," Vallee said. "We have the cutest bartenders on Pine Island."
NFL Sunday at the Legion will be featured every Sunday during the season at 1 pm.
