To the editor:
Pine Islanders, the times they could be a changin'. Are you happy with the rural and relaxed lifestyle here on the islands? Do you enjoy living on Island Time? Do you agree with the Pine Island Plan that regulates the amount of development on Pine Island? Have you noticed the difference in traffic volume between summer and winter? Would you like having winter traffic year-round or worse?
Well, all of that could change as a major developer is buying large pieces of the island with the probable intentions of spending the necessary money to hire and influence the people who could change the current plan to meet their open development goals. I, for one, would not like to see our quiet and environmentally wealthy little island slowly turned into another crowded Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel. I moved here because of what Pine Island offers and have no interest in making it something it isn't, or wasn't meant to be.
Contact the Board of Lee County Commissioners and those currently running for seats on the board. Find out where they stand in support of the existing Pine Island Plan, and let them know your view of what your island should be.
