To the editor:
Hello, from the Pine Island Pool staff in Bokeelia. While the weather is still very hot outside, the 2014 summer swim season has come to an end with great results. The pool had 164 children go through swim lessons and 10 children in Junior Lifeguard Camp. It was a very busy eight weeks with swim lessons, summer camps every day, not to mention all the general public. We only had three small accidents this summer and I contribute this to my great staff for their dedication to the pool.
A huge thanks go out to my trustee assistant, Kory Herrin; Leadguard Sean O'Connor and staff Cameron Swartz, Tyler Davis and James Williams. They make it happen day to day in 95 degree-plus heat to keep all patrons safe and facility clean.
The pool had many children go through swim lessons on scholarships. As always, heartfelt thanks for all the people at the Bobby Holloway Jr. Foundation for making this happen year after year.
Pine Island Pool had two family fun nights sponsored by the Greater Pine Island Kiwanis.
We had a full house, beautiful weather, live music and lots of good food. Thanks Ms. Scarlett, Ms. Tonya and all the great folks for cooking in the hot weather and serving it all up.
The wonderful Matlacha Mariners stepped up to the plate once again and helped out with a monetary donation. Funds were used to help with all the programs offered at the pool this summer.
I would also like to thank the Matlacha Hookers for buying some pool chairs. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
Each and every one of you is such a great asset to the Pine Island community.
It is with sad regret that I write this last summer letter to the Pine Island community. I will be moving on to new adventures in early 2015. It has been an amazing ride in Parks and Recreation for me the last 20 years. Ranking #1 is teaching all these babies to swim and then their children.
I will still be very involved in "Every Child A Swimmer" and wish each of you happiness in all your life.
