The Walker Smith Group will be performing at Olde Fish House Marina Sunday, Aug. 10, from 2-6 p.m.
The Walker Smith Group follows in the footsteps of blues masters Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Dawkins and Jimmie Lee Robinson while staking out its own turf in the lineage of Chicago-centric electric blues, according to his website www.walkersmithgroup.com.
Walker Smith is currently signed with Chicago-based blues record label Blue Skunk Music and is a two-time winner of the "Best Blues Performance" award for the Tampa Bay region in the International Blues Challenge. His 2007 release "Ahead To The Past" was voted Best Self-Produced Blues CD by the members of the Suncoast Blues Society. "Ahead to the Past" was recorded in Florida in 2007 and received strong reviews and airplay worldwide.
The CD promoted Blue Skunk Music in Chicago to sign the artist to it's Chicago based label.
Smith was "raised on Chicago's south side by his mother Glenda Allison, a gospel/jazz singer and club performer, and Walter Sr., a performing guitarist, music was a mainstay in the Smith home.
At a very early age, Walter took up guitar, sang and performed regularly in school programs," according to the website.
"Muddy Waters told me, 'Always play it from your heart,'" Walker said on his website. "Buddy Guy taught me the importance of developing my own sound. Jimmy Dawins message was not to forget about the business side of things, while Jimmie Lee Robinson conveyed the importance of living clean and not getting caught up in 'the game.'"
