Pine Island's Winn Dixie store has a new manager George Williamson, who started last week.

He replaces Dan Loughren, who has been transferred to a Winn-Dixie store in North Fort Myers.

Williamson is "almost" a lifetime Pine Island resident.

"I am 37 years old and I have lived here most of my life," Williamson said. "I was away for about a year in North Carolina before I came back to be with my family. My family has been here for over 50 years and owns Williamson and Sons Marine Construction since 1967.

"When I was 16 I was a bagger in this store on Pine Island," Williamson said. "So it's a great opportunity for me to come here and manage this store.

Williamson returned to Winn-Dixie after several years with Sweetbay. Seventy-two Sweetbay stores were purchased by Winn-Dixie's parent company, Bi-Lo Holdings and closed last May.

"My manager asked me if I was interested in managing the Pine Island store and I jumped at the chance," Williamson said.

"This is a great opportunity for me to give back to the community. I've lived almost my whole life on the island and have owned a house for the last 8 years. There aren't any major changes coming and people can expect the same excellent level of service and commitment to the community they've always had with Winn-Dixie. I want to continue helping the Pine Island community."
