The barbershop on Pine Island has been an island fixture for longer than anyone remembers and when the shop closed last spring, many men had no choice but to leave the island to get their hair cut.
"I did miss the convenience of having a shop here on the island," Pine Island resident Dan Fischer said. "Like everyone else, I had to leave the island for my haircuts so I really happy to see The Razors Edge open up."
"I knew that this shop was the only shop for men on Pine Island," owner Mark Renegar said. "I wanted to bring back the barbershop for the people of Pine Island.
Charles Bregenzer, barber, at The Razors Edge in Bokeelia.
"We celebrated our grand opening with the country's birthday and opened on the Fourth of July with free water and free hot dogs for the parade-goers," Renegar said. "There was a phenomenal turnout for the parade and people really appreciated the water it was a very hot day.
"The place needed a lot of work," Renegar said. "We took over both halves of the building and basically gutted the building from the floors to the rafters to give the place a whole new, fresh look. On the 4th we probably took 25 or 30 people through the shop they wanted to see the inside.
The barber at the shop is Charles Bregenzer.
"I went looking for a really great barber and found Charles," Renegar said. "Charles graduated from Sun State Academy in Fort Myers and has been cutting hair since 1997. I needed someone that could offer a wide range of services."
