To the editor:
The Water and Land Conservation Amendment will be on the Nov. 4 ballot as Amendment 1. Amendment 1 will help to keep our drinking water clean, protect our rivers, lakes and springs, restore the Everglades and protect our beaches and shores. It will keep our Florida Forever funds intact. It will help our rivers, lakes, springs and coastal waterways to be pollution free .
Amendment 1 will be funded by the state documentary stamp tax which is taken from real estate transitions. It will not raise your taxes one cent. It is less than 1 percent of the annual state budget and only 33 percent of the documentary stamp tax fund.
The revenues will rise and fall with the economy.
The biggest perk to Southwest Florida will be cleaning up of our river . This will give money to build a flow way so the Big O waters will be diverted south through the Everglades as well as provide funds to build settling ponds to cleanse this water and buy the land for these water structures.
One thing should be made absolutely clear is to pass this amendment we need 60 percent of the vote in November. We need your support at the polls.
The Lee County Commissioners will be voting on supporting this amendment on Tuesday, June 17, 9:30 a.m. in the Lee County Chambers. Please phone , write ,or email them or be there in support of Amendment 1.
