Pine Island celebrates ‘Best Of’ winners

May 27, 2014
By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

"This is the ninth year in a row that the Eagle has celebrated 'The Best of Pine Island,' Charlene Russ, advertising sales executive for the island newspaper, said. "It gives us an opportunity to recognize the incredible business owners and service providers we have on the island."

Each year the Eagle publishes a "Best of Pine Island" ballot. Pine Islanders then complete the ballot naming their favorite businesses and people and turn it in to the Eagle. Ballots are then counted to calculate the winners for best restaurant, best retail, best entertainment, best accountant, and more.

A special program was held last week at Sandy Hook Fish and Rib House recognizing the 2014 winners. After a dinner of wings, stuffed shrimp and pasta, Russ introduced Publisher Scott Blonde and Advertising Director Cindy Gallagher to the audience. Each winner had their picture taken with the publisher. The photos are available online.

There were several firs-time winners.

"I was very excited that I won," said Scarlett Player, massage therapist. "This is the first time I've won and I have a small client base but apparently they're very loyal. The event was a lot of fun and we enjoyed ourselves very much."

"We really enjoyed the evening," said Mike Faulkner, winner of Best Real Estate Agent. "I would like to thank Pine Island for once again voting us the Best Real Estate Brokerage on Pine Island."
