Tropical Treasures: ‘Shrimp as art’

Tropical Treasures is sponsoring an art contest for any art media depicting shrimp.

The first place winner will receive $300. The second place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to Tropical Treasures.

The event will take place during the Creative Coast Weekend in April at Tropical Treasures.

On Friday, April 11, artists/owners will begin submitting their entries at Tropical Treasures at 11 a.m. All entries must be submitted by 5 pm.

On Saturday, April 12, voting by the general public runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Judges will submit their votes and the winner announced at 4 pm.

Each entry will receive three scores: two by a panel of judges and one by the total of votes from the general public.

The general rules are:

The main subject of the art piece must be one or more shrimp depicted as a creature (i.e. not as food or bait). Any species of shrimp is allowed.

Any art media may be used. Painting, drawing, sculpture, paint, paper, metal, wood, glass, clay etc. All materials are allowed.

Owners of a shrimp art piece may submit it as an entry and must name the artist.

Contest entries, voting and viewing is open to the general public. Only one vote per person.

Artists/Owners may sell their art work if they choose after the winners are announced.
