Big blank ‘canvas’ needs paint

March 19, 2014
By ED FRANKS (efranks@breezenewspapers.com) , Pine Island Eagle

The Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District is looking for artists and their innovative talents. The department currently owns what could be the biggest blank art "canvas" on the island.

What "canvas" does the department own? There is a training tower that is approximately 30 by 15 (each side) that needs to get a facelift. The department is looking for artists that can paint each side of the tower with a different theme. The themes that officials are looking for are: Pine Island History; 9-11 Memorial; Public Safety - Police, Fire, EMS; and TBA (Committee vote).

Because the department is a government entity, it cannot dedicate taxpayers' monies to this project. That means it is unable to provide reimbursement, paint, supplies, scaffolding, etc.
