To the editor:
Greater Pine Island Lions held its 4th Annual Auction/Raffle Feb. 16 at the St. James Civic Center. More than 60 people attended and a good time was had by all. By all reports, the food was delicious and there was plenty for everyone.
Winners of the prizes from the raffle were $1,000 1st prize, Pam Evans, Cape Coral; $500 2nd prize, Judi Boron ($444 was donated back to the GPI Lions thank you, Judi), 3rd and 4th prizes $100 each went to Chris Fairbanks, Pine Island, and John T. Evans, Cape Coral. Thank you all for coming. Because some of the winners left, we did not get all the winners in the picture. From left are Pam Evans, $1,000 winner; Mary Von Burg, president GPI Lions; John T. Evans, $100 winner. Yes, there are husband and wife. Congratulations to all of our winners!!
The auction was a big success. This year we also added a "silent auction" which was well received. We will again this year be able to provide eye care and hearing aids to our Pine Island residents who cannot afford them.
Next year's 5th Annual Raffle/Auction will be held Feb. 15, 2015, at the St. James Civic Center - time to be announced later.
We need your input. This is your party, let us know what we can do to improve it for you. We need to sell the 100 tickets that we offer in order to meet the requests for help we have from the residents of our Island. Please help us make this fund-raiser fun and keep it on our Island. Many organizations continue to leave the Island in order to make more money and have more room for their functions. We do not want to leave.
We also need members. Please come check us out. We do not meet during the summer, and only one night a week during the fall and winter months fourth Monday of the week at 7 p.m., at the Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, 10360 Stringfellow Road, St. James City.
If you have any questions or want to talk, call Mary, president of the GPI Lions, at 283-9761 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
