A Cape Coral driver was cited in a crash Wednesday that injured one person.
Kurtis F. Beach, 34, was traveling northbound in a Toyota Solara on Interstate 75 in the inside lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. At 5:36 p.m., near mile marker 114 in Collier County, a Ford Escape traveling in front of Beach in the same lane started to slow down as the traffic ahead slowed.
Beach apparently failed to slow in time to avoid a collision.
Beach tried to steer to the right, and the front of the Toyota struck the back of the Ford, the FHP reported. After the impact, the Toyota traveled across the other northbound lanes of I-75 and entered the east shoulder of the highway. At the same time, the Ford left the road and entered the median.
The driver of the Ford, Louis F. Barahona, 57, of Lehigh Acres, apparently steered to the right in an attempt to maintain control of the car. The Ford's tires dug into the grass, and the car overturned.
Barahona was transported via Medflight to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Beach was not injured in the accident, according to the FHP.
As of Thursday, Barahona remained at the hospital and was listed in fair condition.
Beach was cited with careless driving in connection to the crash.
