(11-22-1927 - 2-9-2014)
My name is Betty Parker Sullivan George. I was born Betty Lou Burroughs, grew up in the Daytona Beach area, and graduated from Seabreeze High School. After high school, I met and married a wonderful man, Chester "Skip" Parker, raising our two children, Bruce and Scott, in Orlando.
We retired on Pine Island, where we boated, fished and played my most loved game, bridge. After the passing of Skip in 1979, I met and married another wonderful man, Richard Sullivan. It wasn't too long before Richard went to heaven. Then I began to see an old bridge friend, Tony George. We married and did all the fishing, boating and bridge playing that Sanibel and the Pine Island area had to offer. I think Tony loved big game fishing more than I loved bridge.
In 2007, my son Bruce, and daughter-in-law Gloria, retired to Sevierville, Tenn., and my son Scott moved to nearby Seymour, and opened several businesses. My granddaughters, Brittany and Tori Parker soon followed. My stepson, Philip Wellman, and his wife Ella, even bought a home in Sevierville. So it only made sense that Tony and I follow. What a wonderful decision. Then, in October, 2012, Tony went to heaven to join his cherished Carolyn.
I have been a member of the United Methodist Church of Pine Island and Sevierville, Tenn. I was an avid bridge player for many years at the Sevier County Senior Center and the St. James City Civic Association.
I have been blessed with 86 years of good health, until the last several months, when brain cancer was found. I am leaving behind so many close friends, and my beloved family. You all have made my life wonderful. I have now gone to heaven to be with my Lord and first true love, Skip.
From the family: To all the people Betty played bridge with, as you know bridge was what she loved to do, thank you for being there. You all made a special effort to keep Betty's spirits up during her days at home, with your many visits, phone calls, cards and flowers. We are unable to find the words to express our gratitude to you all.
The memorial service was held in Sevierville, Tenn., Feb.13, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, please send an honorarium to the Smoky Mountain Shrine Club for its disabled children's hospital, ? Ray Gray, treasurer, 2135 Little Valley Road, Sevierville, TN 37862.
