The Hot Shots photo club has put out a call to Pine Island photographers who wish to participate in the 2014 SJCCA Art Expo at the St. James City Civic Association Feb. 21 and 22.
The judged photography show is open to all residents of Greater Pine Island.
The show offers a Best in Show Award, six photo categories with first and second place awards in each,12 honorable mentions and three Judges' Awards. To encourage people to enter, the 2014 show prospectus encourages displaying 8-inch x 10-inch images which Walgreens and CVS print.
The SJCCA Judged Photo Expo Prospectus follows:
1. Photography entry categories are Landscape; Urban-scape; People; Wildlife; Creative/Abstract; and Monochrome (which includes black & white) and monochrome images may have one hi-lite color.
2. Presentation Standards: Entry is a single photo image printed on one sheet within matted/framed rectangles minimum of 11-inch x 14-inch to maximum 16-inch x 20-inch; or metal or canvas wrapped image minimum of 8-inch x 10-inch to 16-inch x 20-inch; or square frames minimum 10-inch x 10-inch to 20-inch x 20-inch whether matted/framed, canvas wrapped or printed on metal. Mats are plain white, grey or black mats. Frames are narrow metal or narrow smooth wood frames in black, white, silver, gold or bronze. (Standards enable judging of the photography and not the decorative mat or frames). All entries should be capable of being hung safely.
3. The judged photography show is open to all residents of Greater Pine Island. Entry fee is $3 per photo ($2 for SJCCA members) with maximum of 8 entries per photographer. All entries must be the original work of the presenting photographer.
4. Receiving will be at St. James City Civic Association, 4th and Lemon streets, St. James City, Feb. 21, from 11 a.m. through 1:30 p.m.; judging begins at 2 p.m.
The expo reception opens at 7 p.m. to entrants and all of their invited guests and to members and guests of SJCCA. On Saturday, Feb. 2,2 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., everyone is invited to 2014 Art Expo Show and Sale and Photo Expo.
The Hot Shots photo club of SJCCA has 22 square 12-inch mats (inside opening of 7 3/4-inch) which fit scrapbook metal frames. As well Hot Shots has mentors who will help you print larger images as inexpensively as possible.
