Afternoon Delights deemed a success

Nearly 200 people passed through the clubhouse at Alden Pines Country Club on Pine Island Sunday for the 2nd Annual "Afternoon Delights" event.

"This event helps the Beacon of H.O.P.E with their Seniors Program," Hookers' Madam Theresa Kramer said. "As you know, the Beacon of H.O.P.E was originally organized to respond to the destruction from Hurricane Charley back in 2004 and ever since then has been serving the community in many, many ways. We are raising money today for their Seniors Program. This is where they assist people with their prescriptions, utilities, food stamps, rent and lots of other things.

"This year we added beer to the beverages," Kramer said. "CW Fudge is here, Cupcake Express is here as well as DFV wines with six wines and several beers for tasting. I want to thank Alden Pines Country Club for opening their doors to us this year. This is just an ideal venue for this 'Afternoon Delights' event."

More than 120 people came to last year's event and raised approximately $4,000. Although the totals are not yet available for this year, it is expected that the total will surpass $6,000.

A check will be presented to the Beacon of H.O.P.E at the next Matlacha Hooker meeting in March.
