At 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7, at Bert's Pine Bay Gallery, a "Parade of Mermaids" will be the exciting prelude to the Island Pirate Fest Weekend.
At Bert's Pine Bay Gallery, mermaids, art lovers and any roving pirates are invited to enjoy a special sunset reception catered by Bert's Bar, as they register for the Parade of Mermaids. For a minimal donation, guests will receive, as memento of the occasion, a festively painted starfish. Mermaids will also receive instructions for an authentic "Mermaid Spell," and a sprig of rosemary.
At 7 p.m., the parade will depart, to the top of the Matlacha Bridge, where respects will be paid, and offerings of the "land-loving-memory-inducing rosemary" to the mermaids of the deep.

At Bert's Bar on the deck, winners will be announced and prizes awarded. Mermaids will compete in two groups: Adult mermaid (over 18), and Child mermaid (under 18).
Proceeds from the Island Pirate Fest Weekend will be donated to "From our Hearts", to help with the fight against breast cancer.
