December 23, 2013
By KATHY JONES , Pine Island Eagle

Morning rain and cloudy afternoon skies didn't dampen the spirits of those who attended island songwriter and singer Kip Lawrence's 6th annual Christmas Toys for Girls and Boys concert held at Net Shops USA in Matlacha Sunday afternoon, Dec. 15.?Santa Claus was on hand to "Ho, ho, ho" as concert-goers arrived.

The concert included performances by Lawrence, Marc Northey, Adam Mac and Strange Arrangement and music from traditional Christmas carols to Hawaiian favorite "Mele Kalikimaka."

Lawrence's Christmas Toys for Girls and Boys benefits FISH's (Fellow Islanders Sending Help) Christmas Basket Brigade run by Peg Harmon.

"We just love Kip for lending his talent to this event to help ensure all the children on our list get a nice selection of toys," Harmon said.

"It's wonderful how many toys we've received today during the Merry Matlacha celebration," Lawrence said. "The Matlacha Island Chamber of Commerce helped sponsor the concert and got the word out about it. Net Shops USA made their parking lot available and was a drop off site. Folks have also contributed cash and bought raffle tickets for a decorative surfboard from Net Shops, music CDs from today's musicians and a guitar so we can get even more toys. I am very thankful."

All the gifts have been delivered to the Christmas Basket Brigade and will be wrapped, then delivered to Island families in time for opening on Christmas morning.
