To the editor:
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the myriad of people that helped me accomplish my goals and make it to where I stand today. On Dec. 14, 2013, I graduated from the University of South Florida with my bachelor's degree in criminology and a minor in sociology. I also graduated with honors distinguished as magna cum laude. This accomplishment could not have been met without the support of my Pine Island community.
I'd like to thank all the island organizations that assisted me in paying my tuition in the form of scholarships including: The Pine Island Kiwanis, The Pine Island Moose Lodge, The Bobby Holloway Memorial, The Matlacha Mariners and The Matlacha Hookers. My appreciation is immense for the stress you were able to eliminate as I was paying my way through my schooling.
Every achievement has a foundation and mine was the excellent education at Pine Island Elementary. Every staff member at P.I.E had made a significant impact on my life and I cannot thank each and every one of them enough for all that they did to support me. A special thanks to Mr. Thompson, Ms. Ott, Mrs. V. Brown, Mrs. Manguson, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Wierda, Mrs. Garris, and Mrs. Benjamin for the countless hours and effort you put into making me who I am today.
Last but not least, I'd like to thank my parents for always being there for me and raising me the way they did. Thank you dad, for always working hard and showing me what a great work ethic really is. And thank you mom for always supporting me no matter what my goals and dreams were. I'm blessed to have the best parents in the world and hope that my future children look to me as I do you. I love you.
Thank you all of Pine Island for your support over the last 15 years!
With never-ending gratitude,
