To the editor:
Regarding last week's item "Let's talk trash," Hugh Bremner asks us to all go out and pick up the piles of trash on Stringfellow and Pine Island roads. While I agree that there are huge amounts of paper, cardboard boxes, beer and soda cans and just about everything else, I can only comment that the island does not look like this all summer. Maybe it's coincidence that it only happens during "season," but it is disheartening. As a permanent resident, we have learned to just wait it out - the 45 mph on Stringfellow and Pine Island roads, the crowded restaurants and stores, and yes, the trash on the roadways. Come April, we will get our little piece of paradise back. In the meantime, maybe we can ask the visitors to dispose of their garbage properly?
