November 27, 2013
Special to The Eagle , Pine Island Eagle

Over the weekend, ride your bicycle, walk or drive to Earth & Spirit Garden Gallery for a breath of fresh air! Complimentary refreshments will be served to all visitors along with hourly drawings for free gifts.

On Saturday, Nov. 30, known as "Small Business Saturday," the gallery is hosting a couple of former Fort Myers High School students Viktor Mak and Matthew Kordonowy.

They are the founders of Vern Clothing and they have agreed to spend time at Earth & Spirit while home on their college break.

Vern Clothing works directly with Guatemalan weaving cooperatives; they pay their artisans and weavers a fair wage and donate 10 percent of profits back to charitable organizations in these communities.

Mak and Kordonowy do this because they believe that selling items, which have been handcrafted for a fair wage, will support a type of sustainable development, which will preserve the culture, traditions, and skills of Guatemalan artisans and weavers.

Their philosophy is reflected in the beautiful, handcrafted items that include hand-woven ties, bowties, belts, scarves, bags and accessories. By purchasing Vern Clothing, you will be supporting communities around the world and getting the highest quality handcrafted goods.

Earth & Spirit Garden Gallery is thrilled to carry the Vern Clothing line. Be sure to visit the gallery and meet Mak and Kordonowy and see our full line of Fair Trade and Handmade gifts with meaning.

The gallery will be closed Thanksgiv-ing day, re-opening Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located at 5425 Maria Drive, St. James City, two miles south of the center.
