By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

Barry Newman, formerly of The Crests ("Sixteen Candles"), will perform at the Pine Island VFW Post 4353 Saturday, Nov. 23, at 6:30 pm. The event will benefit the Veterans Relief Fund.

Newman's three-decade career has led him to the biggest concert stages in the U.S. and the major gaming hotels in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. His high energy "Memories of Gold" show features music from the 1940s through the 1970s with songs from Motown plus rock 'n' roll.

Newman's solid, strong voice fit in perfectly with the Crest's chromatic harmonies and tight vocals and he brings his unique talent and his "Memories of Gold" show to Pine Island.
