Benefit planned for the ‘Cat Lady’

November 13, 2013
By ED FRANKS (Efranks@breezenewspapers.com) , Pine Island Eagle

Edith Schulte (the "Cat Lady") has been capturing feral cats on Pine Island and Matlacha for several years. She has trapped, neutered and released over 400 cats. Some of those cats are offered for adoption every week in the Pine Island Eagle.

Deb Cole, Bert's Pine Bay Gallery manager, is holding a benefit to raise money to aid in the "Cat Lady's" work.

"I got involved because of a litter of cats born under a neighbor's house," Cole said. "Edith helped out with food and advice and when I realized she was doing all that she does without a lot of help, I decided to have a fund-raiser."

"The event is going to be Friday night at Bert's Pine Bay Gallery (right next to the bridge) on Friday, Nov. 15, between 6-8 p,m,," Cole said. "There will be a raffle with some great prizes from local businesses and light refreshments will be served."

Bert's Pine Bay Gallery is at 4332 Pine Island Road, NW, in Matlacha.

For additional information, call Deb Cole at 239-940-0534.
