Yoga classes help raise funds for Ceitus Barrier lawsuit

October 30, 2013
Pine Island Eagle

The first of three "free" yoga classes took place Tuesday at Shanti Island Joy Studio located at 6439 Fuller Drive, Bokeelia. These classes aim to raise funds for the lawsuit filed by local civic and environmental organizations to protect the water in Matlacha from excess fresh water and silt.

Despite a previous settlement agreement and Department of Environmental Consent Order requiring replacement of the Ceitus Barrier 5 years ago, the barrier has not been replaced.

The aim of these classes is two-fold, raising funds for the lawsuit and introducing people to yoga who may have previously been hesitant to try it. Classes are at an introductory level and in a secluded, private setting.

The second class in three-class offering was held, Tuesday Oct. 29, and the final is Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 3:45 p.m.

Classes are offered by Isabel Francis, RN, yogafit certified teacher.
