Taste of Matlacha draws large crowd

October 30, 2013
By ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

Sunny skies and balmy temperatures brought between 300 and 400 people out to the Taste of Matlacha at the Community Park Saturday.

The annual event, sponsored by the Matlacha Civic Association, benefits the Pine Island Food Pantry.

The food for the "Taste of Matlacha" was provided by a host of area restaurants. Each restaurant provided their signature dish for the event:

* Miceli's Restaurant - garlic pasta with chicken

* Bert's Bar and Grill - burgers

* Andy's Fish House - seafood chowder

* Perfect Cup - chicken salad

* Mulletville Bar & Grill - Chocolate Oreo cream pie

* Olde Fish House Marina - smoked mullet & mullet spread

* Sandy Hook Fish and Rib House - key lime pie

Live music was provided by "Wild Caught," a local country/bluegrass band.

"This year we also featured paddling vendors from Matlacha so people could have a free trial on a kayak," said Sue Slingerland of Lee County Parks and Recreation. "Florida Paddlesports, Gulf Coast Kayak and Wet Life Paddleboards all provided kayaks and demonstrations were all day."

The need for food never ends at the Pine Island Food Pantry. Please donate to the Food Pantry at Our lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 12175 Stringfellow Road, Bokeelia.
