After seven years volunteering at the Beacon of H.O.P.E., island residents Bob and Paula Montgomery are leaving Pine Island for King's Point, Fla.
At a small gathering last week at Greider Realty in Matlacha Isles, Betsy Haesemeyer, director of the Beacon of H.O.P.E., said she wanted to express her appreciation to the couple.
"The reason we're here is, in some small way, to thank you for everything you've done for the Beacon of H.O.P.E. and Pine island," Haesemeyer said. "When I got up this morning, I started listing all the different ways you've touched our lives. The Food Pantry, we wouldn't have a GED program without you or Meals on Wheels.

"One other very important thing is the PowerPoint presentation Bob created for the website that really relates to the donor," Haesemeyer said. "When I think back about it, wherever there was a need you filled it."
"Well thank you," Bob Montgomery said. "You know you get to meet such wonderful nice people and, of course, you get back so much more than you give. And I have to say it's been a great honor to work with everybody."
