The 15th Annual Pine Island Elementary Fishing Tournament & Derby, sponsored by the Matlacha Hookers, will be held Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Olde Fish House Marina in Matlacha.
The Matlacha Hookers were formed 15 years ago (1998) when 21 women got together and decided to "make a difference in their community." These women formed the Matlacha Hookers. Their motto: "I will always try to act with high moral and ethical character and will do my best to make a positive difference in our community through my commitment to the Matlacha Hookers."
In those 15 years the "Hookers" have contributed greatly to the people of Pine Island and Matlacha with their fishing tournaments, support for the Beacon of HOPE, senior programs, annual scholarships to high school students, GED programs, and the Hookers are one of the major donors to the Pine Island Food Pantry.
Students that participated in last year's tournament.
