About a dozen people gathered for the swearing-in ceremony of Bokeelia's new Postmaster
Gina Krajka. Randy Stines, manager of Post Office Operations, was introduced her.
"Gina's had this job for a while. I interviewed Gina back in October," he said. "As you know, Pine Island is its own little paradise and we get a lot of applicants for a position here. We probably had 25 or 35 people apply for this position. Today we do mostly phone interviews and I can tell you that Gina stood out from her first phone interview and I was sure the job would be hers. After a small delay of about three months Gina was able to begin work here."
With her husband looking on, Gina Krajka, left, is sworn in as Bokeelia’s new postmaster by Randy Stines, manager of Post Office Operations.
Once Krajka was sworn in, she made a few comments.
"I just want to thank everyone for being here and thank you Randy for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of Bokeelia" Krajca said. "I also want to thank my employees, my husband for moving 1,400 miles. I look forward to working here for many years. 'Thank you.'"
Krajka began with the Postal Service in 1989 as a part-time flexible letter carrier in Framingham, Mass. She delivered mail for 17 years before deciding to seek a position in management.
In 2007, she was accepted into the Greater Boston District Associate Supervisor Program. She graduated in 2009 and promoted to supervisor customer services.
She was officer in charge of Hopedale, Mass., until her promotion in 2011 to postmaster of Stow, Mass. She left Massachusetts last year to accept the postmaster position in Bokeelia.
"My father was a letter carrier so it was a natural thing for me," Krajka said. "I moved up pretty fast. Relocating here was mostly for my son. In Massachusetts you have just a few months of outside activities - here it's 12 months a year. I've been in Bokeelia about six months and I'm very happy to be here."
Sandwiches and cake was served.
