Thanks to the Pine Island community

Pine Island Eagle

To the editor:

My name is Gwendelyn Fristensky, and I am the music teacher at Pine Island elementary. I have recently been hired as an assistant principal at Veteran's Park Academy for the Arts in Lehigh Acres, and will begin my new position this week.

As a student, I attended Pine Island Elementary and Middle Schools from 1st through 8th grade, and went on to be part of the first 4-year graduating class at Mariner High School. I returned to teach music at PIE in 2006, where I have enjoyed so many wonderful students, some of whom are children of people I grew up with, as well as my own son. I have also enjoyed the support of parents and community organizations such as the Matlacha Mariners, the Matlacha Hookers, the St. James Hobby Club, the Concerned Parent-Teacher Organization (CPTO), the Southwest Florida Blues Society and others. The 4th and 5th grade Eagles Choir has performed at the Blues Festival, the Seafood Festival, tree lighting ceremonies, Little League opening ceremonies, the Christmas Bliss, the public library anniversary, and other events.

The support of the Pine Island community is what makes our school so special. It is why those of us who work here feel like we work in paradise every day. I thank the community, the families, and my colleagues. Keep up the great work, and I will keep you in my heart always!

Sincerely,

Gwendelyn Fristensky
