Belle's Secret Island Spa owner starts drive to assist Food Pantry

August 21, 2013
by ED FRANKS ( , Pine Island Eagle

Jody Franke's interest in Pine Islanders well being by offering quality healing services such as a skin care treatment, massage therapy session, Body Wrap, manicure or pedicure at her spa has been extended to include the goal of overcoming hunger on the island. She has named the venture "FoodStock."

"Foodstock came out of the Woodstock Festival of 1969. Those islanders of the Woodstock generation can relate to the name Foodstock! It's really a collaborative effort from all of us at Belle's. Patrice Gibbons, Lucy Kimsey, Gina Kilby and I are all working to bring this together," Franke said. "We have been working hard to set up drop-off locations to make it as easy as possible for people to help out. The drop locations we have so far are Cupcake Express, Tropical Hair Gallery, Ragged Ass Saloon, Capt'n Con's Fish House, Center of Pine Island Laundromat, Monroe Canal Marina, Pine Island Feed and Garden Center, Traders Hitching Post and of course Belle's Secret Island Spa."

"We can use the help now more than ever," said Dave Grueser, president of the Pine Island Food Pantry. "Our supplies are down and the need is greater now than it was this time last year. We are a 365-days-a-year operation and this time of year our numbers are down so we appreciate everything everyone does for us."

"Now is a time that is really hard for islander's in need. The pantry also is low in stock this time of year. There's are drop off locations set up year round provided by the food pantry. A little extra boost certainly could help. Share what you can," Franke said.

The drive begins Aug. 21st and ends one month later on Sept. 24. All of the food collected will be contributed to the Pine Island Food Pantry.
