by MEGHAN McCOY ( ) , Pine Island Eagle

The Greater Pine Island VFW Post 4353 will hold defibrillator training, free of charge, for the community Thursday, July 26.

Bernadette Sullivan said since they post has a defibrillator on premise, they wanted to offer training for the entire community. She said they have a defibrillator because it could save a life for someone having a heart attack.

"Whether anyone is at the post or anywhere else that has a defibrillator, it would help to know how to work it," she said.

Rick Halcomb will show individuals how to use the piece of equipment at 6 p.m. at the VFW, 8150 Stringfellow Road in St. James City. Sullivan said he will also answer questions regarding the defibrillator or CPR.

"Free sloppy joes will be provided for all attendees," she said of the training.

The VFW is currently in the process of receiving an interior face lift, which should be completed soon.

"Commander Keith Keefer would like members to stop buy and enjoy the changes," Sullivan said.

The VFW hosts bang with sloppy Joe's every Tuesday night. Sullivan said they also have bango on Saturday with pizza to order.

"It's a fun card game," she said, adding that the game and food starts at 5 p.m. on both nights.

The 6th annual Chili Cook Off will be held in September. Sullivan said more information will be available soon.
