The first annual Surf & Turf experience will grace the backwaters of Pine Island Sound as well as the greens of South Seas Island Resort this October
Kristen Potter said the Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers Inc. will hold the fund-raising event Oct. 18-20 at Tarpon Lodge.
"The Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers Inc. was established in 2011 as a not-for-profit organization focused on educating and training physically disabled veterans to excel at proactively cross selling personal lines insurance products," she said. "The main goal is to generate meaningful employment opportunities for the heroes and heroines that risked everything in our nation."
Although based in Fort Myers, the Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers Inc. has board members all across the county who aid in helping disabled veterans from any state get back into the working world, Potter said.
The event has a registration fee of $1,500 and is limited to 60 players of 20 teams.
Potter said the fee includes a three-day, two-night stay at Tarpon Lodge; custom, limited edition Surf & Turf apparel; a commemorative gift; guided fishing in Pine Island Sound with a charter captain for redfish and golf at South Seas Island Resort. The fee also includes a casino night, live and silent auction, two full breakfasts, two cocktail hours, two dinners and a boxed lunch before golf.
Participants will head out to the backwaters of Pine Island Sound with a charter fishing guide for three hours to catch redfish Oct. 19. Once the fishing concludes, the captains will take the competitors to South Seas Island Resort where their golf clubs will be waiting for them. After lunch the participants will then head out for nine holes of golf.
The event will include trophies for the top three teams registering the most inches of a redfish, as well as for the three teams with the lowest gross scores for golfing. One trophy will be awarded to the three Surf & Turf overall combined champions.
"This is a one of a kind experience that hasn't been done before," Potter said. "This event is designed to be a true sportsman's experience and is limited to 60 competitors.
